Versi klien dari akan dirilis dalam versi 32-bit dan 64-bit, sedangkan versi servernya (yang akan menggantikan Windows Server 2008) akan dirilis hanya dalam versi 64-bit, yang akan dinamakan Windows Server 2008 R2.

Siap mendownload Windows 7, siapkan komputer anda dengan spesifikasi minimal:
Processor : 1 GHz.
RAM :1 GB of RAM
VGA card mendukung DirectX 9 dengan 128MB memori grafis
Hardisk: 16 GB. sekarang banyak tersedia 160 GB.
CD/ DVD ROM

Lisensi trial software akan berakhir pada 1 Juni 2010, lumayan, setahun menggunakan windows resmi, original, dan gratis. Tapi, sebelum berakhir akan ada poeringatan yang nampaknya akan merepotlan, mulai 1 maret 2010, kalau digunakan, komputer akan shutdown setiap 2 jam. Bagi yang mau sekedar coba-coba uninstal saja window 7, tapi bagi yang merasa cocok, bisa membeli lisensi untuk pemakaian selanjutnya.
